CLAS RESEARCH SUPPORT SERVICES

 

Research Support Services (RSS) is organized to assist with research development and administration in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  The unit comprises these areas:

- Pre-award Services
- Post-award Services

- Space Allocation & Renovation

Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

- Postdoctoral Affairs
- Research Education & Responsible Conduct of Research

 

Administrative Training Programs:  Research Support Services provides instruction and tools for the management of restricted funding resources.  Restricted funding resources are all sponsored external funds and internal awards for research support of faculty and graduate students.  RSS conducts workshops in grant management for departmental administrators, including areas of proposal support, effort reporting, budgeting and reconciliation of accounts, reporting, purchasing, travel, and provides administrative guidance on compliance with sponsor and university regulations and procedures.

Data Management, Reporting, and Communication:  Research Support Services maintains data on research activity in the college and select institutional information.  Information on faculty expertise within academic discipline, facility and equipment resources, funding agency profiles, research expenditures, and trend data, is collected and reported.  RSS is responsible for Communication of relevant sponsor and university pronouncements.  The CLAS research website area is maintained by Research Support Services.

Pre-award Services:  Research Support Services assists with sponsored funding resource searches, proposal development, budget preparation, coordination with Sponsored Programs Administration and other areas, coordination with other areas outside of WSU, and provides general advice with regard to sponsor and university procedures.

Post-award Services:  Research Support Services assists with funding management by providing periodic budget forecast reports, review and coordination of effort reporting, review of expenditure transfer requests for compliance with sponsor and university policy, and review of close out administrative and financial reports.

Research Labs:  Research Support Services works to facilitate interaction between campus Facilities Planning, Maintenance, and Environmental Health & Safety, to ensure a productive and safe work area for faculty, students, and staff. 

Space Allocation and Renovation:  New faculty lab and office space set ups are coordinated through Research Support Services. 

Graduate Student Affairs:  Research Support Services coordinates graduate student funding and research training within the college.  RSS works with WSU Graduate Studies to support graduate students.

Postdoctoral Affairs:  Research Support Services coordinates postdoctoral support and training within the college.

Research Education and the Responsible Conduct of Research:  Research Support Services communicates opportunities for education and training in the responsible conduct of research, and monitors participation in programs.
