Graduate Students

Most students accepted into the Ph.D. program in psychology receive financial aid. Financial aid is offered both through the Psychology Department, by means of Teaching Assistantships and Research Assistantships, and through the Graduate School, by means of University Graduate Fellowships and Graduate-Professional Scholarships.

All teaching assistants and research assistants receive a stipend, a tuition scholarship for 10 credit hours per semester fall & winter, and excellent health and dental insurance coverage. The amount of the stipend depends on the student's level in the graduate program. Housing allowances also are available to some graduate assistants.

Wayne State University Graduate Scholarships and Fellowships are awarded by the University Graduate School, primarily on the basis of academic qualifications and demonstrated capacity for independent study. Some of the sources include Thomas C. Rumble Fellowships and Minority Fellowships. A University Fellow receives a stipend with an additional allowance for tuition. Health insurance is included with all fellowships and a housing allowance also may be available. The University's Graduate-Professional Scholarship provides a tuition scholarship for up to 12 credits per semester.

Students who wish to be considered for Psychology Department Teaching and Research Assistantships are encouraged also to apply for a University Graduate Fellowship and the Graduate-Professional Scholarship. The deadlines for these awards vary, and you will be asked to supply letters of recommendation and transcripts.
